When was the last time you’ve cleaned your mattress?
Cleaning your mattress regularly is more important than you probably imagine. You sleep on it every night, so it accumulates moisture from your sweat and dead skin cells which can lead to bacteria and germ buildup.
So, you probably don’t want to sleep on a mattress that just appears to be clean.
But, what’s the best and easiest way to clean it without spending a lot of money on expensive cleaning products?
Here’s how to make your mattress as clean as new using a simple, cheap natural ingredient. What’s more, you’ll remove dust mites and odors that could’ve disturbed your sleep.
How to Clean Your Mattress
The main ingredient is the common baking soda you probably have in your home right now. You’ll need a 16-ounce box of it, as well as some of your favorite essential oil. The last thing you’ll need is your vacuum cleaner to clean up the mess you’re about to make.
Remove your beddings and duvets and put them in the washer. Next, flip your mattress or rotate it, and ask someone for help if you need it. Then, add 10-20 drops of some essential oil to your box of baking soda. Now, close it and shake it well to distribute the oil evenly.
The next step is sprinkling the baking soda out of the box over your entire mattress. Feel free to use a sieve to prevent formation of clumps. Then, rub the mixture with your hands into your mattress, making sure it goes deep. Allow it to stay for 60 minutes.
In the meantime, you can clean the bed frame and the walls around your bed to eliminate possible germs. Finally, vacuum the mattress carefully to make sure you remove all the baking soda, and with that, all the bacteria, dirt residue, and moisture.
Clean Mattress and Carpet Stains with Baking Soda
You can also use baking soda to help clean mattress stains. In fact, baking soda is better than liquid cleaners as they can saturate the mattress leading to formation of mildew and mold.
So, what you should do is spray a bit of vinegar over the mattress stain, and then add some baking soda on it.
Cover with a towel and let it act for 1-2 hours. The results will amaze you. What’s more, this is a safe cleaning method as it won’t damage your mattress in any way.
Also, you can use baking soda to clean carpet stains. Just sprinkle some baking soda over the stain and let it stay for a few minutes to absorb any excess moisture. Vacuum the stain and prepare for the next step.
Add one tablespoon of vinegar in a cup of warm water, and use the solution to blot the stain from the outside edges inward. Do this until you notice the stain has transferred completely to the cleaning cloth. Finally, let it dry.
