Many people love using coconut oil. After all, it is a highly nourishing product with countless uses. But, lately, a lot of people have been using it for the hair.
They claim that if used correctly, coconut oil can be a perfect remedy for the hair. It can help repair damaged hair, prevent hair loss, and even premature graying. Also, it can be beneficial for some hair types.
But, before deciding on using the coconut oil, here is how you should apply it correctly without damaging your hair.
Repairs Damaged Hair
Using coconut oil on your hair can reduce the protein loss. This oil is more efficient than sunflower or mineral oil, so make sure to give it a try. Apply it to the hair ends. Lastly, make sure to trim the ends every month to prevent damaging your hair any further.
When the pigment cells start to die after some time, the hair becomes gray. So, to prevent premature graying make a mixture of coconut oil and lemon and apply it on the hair. Massage the scalp for about 15 minutes every day to nourish the hair.
However, use a little of this mixture, so that you won’t damage the hair follicles.
Prevents Hair Loss
Hair loss is a common problem among many people.
Nutritional deficiencies, fungal infections, or inflammatory skin conditions are the common causes of hair loss. And since coconut oil contains plenty healthy fats that can treat skin infections and soothe inflammation, it can be a perfect remedy for preventing hair loss.
To make this remedy, you will need:
- Three tablespoons of coconut oil
- Two tablespoons of sage oil
Cook them on low heat until they have combined well. Next, let the mixture cool down a bit and apply it on the head. Cover your head with a shower cap and remove it the next morning. Finally, wash your hair as you would normally do.
Coconut Oil Is NOT for Every Hair Type
Different hair types respond to coconut oil differently. Therefore, this oil can’t be used for every hair type. According to some studies, this oil can be beneficial for many hair types, but not all. So, it is immensely important to test the oil on small parts and see how the skin will react.
People with shiny hair can use this oil since it can give their hair more volume. However, people with dry hair may experience some problems. Because they lack protein in the hair follicles, the coconut oil may cause significant hair loss and brittle hair.
So, instead of coconut oil for dry hair, we suggest using argan or marula oil.
Note: Anyone who is allergic to coconut oil or the ingredients in it, mustn’t use this product on the hair, no matter their hair type.
It is important to stick to using coconut oil in small amounts. This oil seems to be most beneficial only if used in a tiny amount, enough to cover the hair ends. To apply it, simply rub a tiny amount of this oil on the hands and gently apply it on the hair.
Do not wash your entire hair with the coconut oil.
